In 2023 I watched 358 films, the most I’ve watched in a single year, here are a list of films I enjoyed the most. They aren’t films that were just released this year but from any time I just happened to watch them this year.
Bigbug
French Scifi about technology and how a smart home and rogue AI start to control people, sounds very cliche and in a way it is, but it’s all set in a what reminded me of a PeeWee Herman esque type house that seems playful and colorful and fun for the electronics to be controlled by an AI trying to “save humanity”.
Dream Scenario
When you end up in everyone’s dreams and become famous overnight and only being famous for that and trying to use the platform to further your actual career which no one really seems interested in. This awkward film I found hilarious and really enjoyed.
Equalizer
I never watched any of the Equalizer films before but I watched the first two then went to see the third in the cinema and thoroughly enjoyed all three and the progress through them, they were adapted to suit Denzel Washington’s abilities rather than pretending to be years younger and it works. Definitely my favorite series of the year
FAQ About Time Travel
I had never heard of this one before but it was recommended and it’s definitely up there, I love the simple complexity of it and how it all ties in with itself despite being quite silly at the “same” time.
Killing of the Silver Moon
I think the best way to describe this is that on the opening weekend of this in the cinema with a crowd of about maybe 30, for the whole three hours not one person got up to go to the toilet until the credits started and everyone ran out to go to the loo. The pace was great and to me there were no slow parts in it, a compelling and interesting story with some fantastic acting on show.
Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
Classic comedy killer, watched this a number of years ago but as it wasn’t on the list I rewatched and didn’t fail to entertain, very fun film and well worth a watch.
The Wave
Scandinavian disaster movie where an avalanche causes a tsunami? Is that what it’s called in a fjord? Anyway the wave hits a town and it’s about how people survive or don’t!! Enjoyed this.
That’s my top films of 2023. There are others that I did enjoy and will watch again at some point. I've added that filter to the film list so you can see which ones I enjoyed the most and that’s my way of recommending them.
